THE ROUND HOUSE

Author:  Louise Erdrich
Genre:  Fiction, Standalone
Published:  2013
Personal Rating:  2.25/5 (not enjoyable +)
Format/Narrator:  Audiobook/Gary Farmer
Yearly Count:  2

The Round House is a coming-of-age tale of a 13-year-old Indian boy whose family member has been brutally hurt.

Oh boy.  There were more tangents taken in this novel (and some very long-winded, crazy ones at that!) than I could ever count.  I just wanted the storyline (which in general was a good one) to stay on track and get to the end.   Not only was it frustrating for me, it promoted boredom.  Not consistently, but boredom did visit - more than once or twice.  :(

  1. That's too bad. I haven't read this one and can't say it's on my must read list. Didn't it win an award or something though? Anyway, it's too bad this one didn't work for you. Hopefully the book you read next is much better.

    1. Literary Feline ~ Yep! It won the National Book Award for fiction. That was my BIG clue to NOT read it. LOL Obviously, it wasn't a book for me, but the rest of the world loves it. If you do pick it up, I hope you LOVE it. :)

The two I'm currently reading are both VERY GOOD! Hooray!

  2. Yeah, a lot of big award winners are just too "smart" for me.

    1. Bermudaonion ~ I'm not so sure what you mean by "smart," but this book didn't seem smart to me. I simply didn't like it. :)

  3. I read Love Medicine by Erdrich many years ago and disliked it immensely. I know she's a popular author, but I doubt I'll try this book. Not my cuppa.

    1. Les ~ I have The Plagues of Doves waiting in iTunes, but at this point I have no interest. Too many other books to explore!
