LITTLE CHILDREN
Tom Perrotta ~ BOiPod
Personal Rating: 1/5
Yearly Count: 20
UGH! A more appropriate title would be PATHETIC PARENTS.
I've really got to start reading dust jackets and reviews before I pick up a book. I would have never listened to this one had I just an inkling of how awful it was going to be. The entire plot revolved around unhappy adults and how they seek out some kind of happiness...all at the expense of others.
I also have to start ditching books that sicken me. At best, it reminded me of the worst soap opera I could imagine with much more trashy s*x thrown in. I give it a "1", instead of a "0", because the man can write; it's what he wrote about that caused me problems.
My advice...don't even give it a second thought.

Right with you on that one! Perrotta can write, but I just felt like screaming "GROW UP!!!!" to the parents. I'm not seeing the movie, suffered enough through the book :-)
ReplyDeleteTwo thumbs down on this one, huh? I just picked up a copy at the library book sale, but I guess I'll wait on it for a while. No point wasting my time right now. Thanks for the heads up, Joy.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear. I'd been eyeing this one at the library. Thanks for the heads-up. Too many books, too little time! I'll pass.
ReplyDeleteHee hee - my friend, it's about time you learned to put aside books that you're not enjoying. Don't you have enough books you "have to" read for school or work? Let yourself let go!
ReplyDeleteI hated this one as well. I thought it was awful. I am glad I am not the only one.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joy, for the warning. I will stay clear of this one.
ReplyDeleteI heard a lot of bad bad stuff about this one too. its crazy. sorry you had to go through that. I should start downloading stuff on my computer.
ReplyDeleteWell, pooh, you're not the first I've heard say this is awful. I already have a copy, though, so I'll give it a try and pitch it within the first 50 pages if I can't take it - when I get to it. At least it was cheap. :)
ReplyDeleteLazy Cow ~ I didn't know there was a movie. How did THAT happen!?!
ReplyDeleteKookie ~ It doesn't seem like a good fit for you.
Les ~ Good choice. :)
Suzi ~ Yes, mam. :) It is soooo hard to do. I always think that it'll get better or in the long run it'll be worth it for some reason. The only books I have abandoned have been loooooonnnngggggg ones. I will keep trying.
Lover of Books ~ You are definitely not the only one...I'm right there with you and evidently many others!
Booklogged ~ Good choice. :)
Nessis ~ I had no clue it was so bad. ???
Bookfool ~ Free wouldn't have been "cheap" enough!
Amen sista, I didn't like this one either.
ReplyDeleteYes, Kate Winslet (who I usually adore) is in it. It's received very good reviews in Australia, but I'm not the least bit tempted!
ReplyDeleteSheri ~ :)
ReplyDeleteLazy Cow ~ I wouldn't be either.
* I had another thought about the title...it depicts how the adults acted.
Wow, am I the only one that actually liked this book? It made me think about suburbia and how things are not always what they seem behind those lovely, white picket fences.....
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the movie...I believe Kate Winslet has done an awesome job!
Lotus ~ I think so. BUT...that's okay. We won't hold it against you. :)
