LOT'S RETURN TO SODOM

Author:  Sandra Brannan
Genre:  Mystery, Liv Bergen Series #2
Published:  2011
Personal Rating:  4/5 (very good)
Format:  Book
Yearly Count:  53

From Amazon:

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is no place for button-downed citizens--unless they're trying to hide a murder. Sharp-witted Liv Bergen can't avoid becoming embroiled in murders, it seems. Her family's hometown of Sturgis, South Dakota, is quickly becoming the Sodom of the Black Hills during the dog days of summer as it hosts the infamous rally of grizzled hard-core motorcycle bikers--half a million of them. Crime comes too close for comfort when Liv must solve the mystery of a beautiful young townie to clear her brother's name.

Liv witnesses the vile death of another young woman, and during her investigation of both crimes she attracts the uninvited attentions of the menacing leader of Lucifer's Lot--the baddest of the bad biker gangs. Her quick wit and pragmatic thinking are all that stands between her and certain elimination.

FBI agent Streeter Pierce is back on the trail, working undercover to find the murderer and a shadow criminal called the Crooked Man. When he and Liv cross paths, sparks are flying, literally.

Another winner by Sandra Brannan!  Hooray!  I received the third book in this series for review and needed to quickly catch up with the second.  Sometimes a push is needed and the third coming out gave me just that.  I'm thankful, because I really enjoyed it. :)

I love learning about other cultures that I know little about (motorcycle gangs in this case), especially when they are woven into a mystery, and this one did a terrific job of both.  Of course, I don't know what's fact or fiction, but they pretty much held to my cliched perception of them.  Just adding the word "gang" to any group and a vision will spring into your mind.

My only complaint is the main character, Liv.  I stated in my post of In the Belly of Jonah (Series #1) that, "She was a little too . . . or not enough . . . something."  As vague as that is, I haven't changed my mind.  I actually think I liked her less this time (rating reflects).  Something profound happened in the beginning of this book, and her response was appalling.  It's going to take some time for me to warm up to her.  Putting that aside, this book was very good, and I'm excited about getting to #3 titled Widow's Might.

My thanks go to Marissa from JKS Communications for sending me the ARC.

I'm looking forward to #3 as well and have an ARC here. I'm on a blog tour in August when it is released. I've got to put my memory cap on about these first two both of which I read last year. Glad this one worked well for you.

    1. Kay ~ I'm at the end of the tour, but I think I'm going to read Widow's Might sooner rather than later (of course I won't post until the assigned date). Dragging my feet worked out okay this time because now everything is fresh even though it's not a necessity to enjoy Brannan's books. I'm anticipating another good read! :)
