Best Reads of 2008

It was the Year of Challenges; it was the Year of Records. My reading year has been delightful to say the least. The numerous challenges I participated in spurred me on to read a whopping total of 167 books for a new personal record!!! Of those 167, I have 23 that qualified for a rating of 4.5 or above. They are listed below with the best of the best in bold.

  1. I'll be reading Mudbound for the Southern Challenge in '09. And I have to tell you about Last Days of Summer. My hubby had to take his car in for service today and was looking for a book to read while waiting. I gave him LDOS and told him I'd heard only good things. When he came back I asked him if he liked it so far. He said it was slow reading. I looked at him funny and he said "... because I had to stop and put the book down each time I laughed!" So, he'd enjoying it and I'll be reading it soon. : )

  2. You read an amazing amount of books this past year, Joy. Wow! And what a list of top rated books!

I really liked The Nazi Officer's Wife when I read it as well. A Child Called It is such a heartbreaking story, isn't it?

I hope you have a wonderful New Year!

What a fantastic year, Joy. I hope 2009 is just as successful (although I know your goals will be a little different).

    Happy new year!

  4. I really enjoyed Mudbound and Guernsey was one of my top 3 reads for the year!

The Arrival was my favourite book of the year in 2007, so I am glad to see it on your list for this year!

  5. Mary ~ WEIRD. I thought I responded to this already. I must have done it in my head. Anyway, that's too funny. (ha ha) Has he finished it, yet? You have some good reading ahead of you, Mary. :)

Literary Feline ~ Well . . . read and listened. :) It's such a fabulous feeling when we're elated with a book, isn't it? I hope I have more of those this year.

Pelzer has come a long way from such horrific circumstances. His story really brought child abuse to light. Happy New Year to you, too!

Trish ~ LOL!!! I thought that one was just great! :) Happy New Year, Trish.

Marg ~ I was so pleased with the three you mentioned. I look forward to many more of those in 2009. Hope you discover many great reads, too. :)

  10. Framed ~ Thanks, that was nice to hear. :) I fully empathize with the need to find more time. Books just keeping piling onto my TBR list and shelves without more available time.
